Accuracy, Precision and Speed are the basic expectations from a robot. Today’s industry is pushing limits more than ever before and swiftly keeping up with the changes in science and technology. Manufacturing machines are now taking on more than one duty and are able to manufacture more than one product on the same production line. The need for flexible and lean manufacturing can only be met with Robotic solutions.

Up until now, the Robot Technology has improved with the Serial Kinematics logic. However, today, the speeds that the industry needs cannot be provided by the current mechanical structure. In structures where axes are built on one another, large mechanisms and heavier joints were used. It was only possible through larger motors to provide the momentums required for a large mass to start and stop motion. As the mass increases, so does the inertia, which reduces the acceleration and speed.

Such problems have been solved with an approach that can be defined as a radical solution in terms of design criteria. In parallel robot structure, joints are not installed on each other; all of them are positioned on the same body. This way, none of the arms have to carry the next one, preventing them from being subject to unnecessary load. This way, all actuators work for the load they are supposed to carry, rather than carrying the body of the robot. As the robot joints get lighter, inertia get smaller too, which ensures that the motors work more dynamically and efficiently.

Connecting the joints to the same body also yields positive results in terms of precision. In the serial kinematic structure, connecting each axis in series means any error will affect the whole structure cumulatively. This intensifies the total error in the serial mechanism. However, in parallel robots such as Delta robots, more precise positioning is possible as errors are not added on one another.

All of these advantages make Delta robots the star in recent years in the robot industry. Belonging to the Parallel Robot family, Delta robots have simple mechanics, in addition to all the features that are expected to be found in a robot.

Today, Delta robots come to the fore in applications requiring speed. They are highly used in packaging technologies as an area of application. Catching the products passing through a production line and placing them in packages can be considered the typical area of application for Delta Robots.

The convenience provided for engineers in the industry by Rexroth, Motion and Control Expert, comes to the fore in robotics applications as well. Robotics solutions offered with the Indramotion MLC technology allows you to develop robotics applications and build difficult kinematic structures in a short time. With the MLC technology, it is possible to control 64 axes from a single center with 1 ms cycle time. You can use Rexroth MLC (Motion Logic Controller) to programmatically build 16 different robot kinematics and control 64 axes from a single controller. The MLC infrastructure allows industrial communication through Sercos II, Sercos III, Ethernet /IP (Scanner/Slave), DeviceNet, Profibus (master/slave) and Ethernet TCP/UDP/IP protocols.

Using the opportunities that MLC Robot control libraries offer for the programmer, you can provide your robot with the opportunity to control with PTP, linear and circular interpolation motions. Depending on application needs, it is also possible to work in synchronization with the conveyor and get position information from a camera to access desired points.
